Salud Avellaneda-Marin, 41, of Asheboro, North Carolina and her two sons were traveling in a Ford Expedition westbound on U.S. 64 when a pickup truck, driven by Arturo Arguijo, 16, pulled out in front of them. The SUV went through the median and rolled 30 to 40 yards, flipping several times.

None of the five passengers in the truck, which was driven by Arturo Arguijo, was injured. This is yet another example of the dangers of SUV rollover accident.

SUV rollovers have a higher fatality rate than other types of crashes. Less than 3% of crashes involve rollovers, however they account for 1/3 of occupant fatalities, killing more than 10,000 people in the US every year (Trial, November 2004).

Go to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rollover ratings for model year 2006 vehicles to see how your SUV ranks!
