Brent AdamsSeptember 29, 2007 10:23 PMDole Fresh Vegetables, a division of Dole Food Company, Inc., announced on Monday September 17, that it will be recalling all "Dole Hearts Delight" salads with a "best if used by" date of September, 19, 2007 and production code of "A24924A" or "A24924B" in the United States and Canada.
The recall is a result of random screenings discovering E. coli O157:H7 in a grocery store in Canada. No other Dole salad products are believed to be involved.
Symptoms of exposure to E. coli O157:H7 can include stomach cramps and diarrhea. A development of bloody diarrhea is also possible. E. coli disease could possibly lead to a complication known as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). If you exhibit any of these symptoms within three to five days of consumption of one of the specified products, you should seek immediate medical attention.
Any consumers who still have any of the "Dole Hearts Delight" salads with the aforementioned "best if used by" date and production codes stamped on the package should immediately dispose of the product. The product was mainly sold in Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritime Provinces in Canada and Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and neighboring states in the United States.
In North Carolina, our products liability law protects consumers from defective products, including contaminated foods. If you bought any of the contaminated Dole salads, you should insist on a refund of the purchase price. If the contaminated food has made you or any member of your family sick, the producer and seller is responsible for all resulting personal injury.
