Brent AdamsMarch 07, 2008 3:41 PMThe U. S. Food and Drug Administration has added to its' the recall of heparin products.
This was in response to continued safety worries about the safety of the widely used blood thiner.
The German version of the product manufactured by Rotexmedica GnbH Arzneimittelwerk was recalled Thursday by the FDA after reports of bad reactions in some German patients.
Germany has also recalled this drug.
Questions have arisen in connection with the raw ingredients which may have come from China
The death toll for U. S. victims linked to heparin , made from pig intestines, had risen to 21 from 4 according to the FDA.
The F.D.A. has yet to identify the root cause of the problem. although contaminated supplies from China are strongly suspected. The agency is investigating two Chinese wholesalers -- also called consolidators -- that supplied crude heparin to the Chinese plant, Changzhou SPL, as well as those that sold raw ingredients to the consolidators.
North Carolina victims who have experienced adverse results from taking heparin have a products liability claim which North Carolina courts will recognize.
If you or a loved one have been injured as a result of taking heparin, you should contact a North Carolina lawyer to see if there is a valid claim.
