Most people are aware that liability insurance is compulsory in North Carolina. Each owner of an automobile is required by law to have liability insurance which pays a minimum of $30,000.00 to anyone injured as a result of a negligent driving.
The insurance is tied to the car, not the driver.
The driver, however, could lose his operator's license permanently if he is driving a car that is not insured.
He could lose his license permanently and never ever be able to get them back.
If a judgment is obtained against a driver of an uninsured motor vehicle, the driver could lose his license forever or until the first $30,000.00 of that judgment is paid. This provision of the law is designed to compel every person to have liability insurance in an amount of at least $30,000.00 per person.
It is therefore important to be sure that the motor vehicle you drive, even if it is owned by a third party, has adequate liability coverage.
If you have been injured by the negligence of an uninsured driver and you have been unable to collect for your damages, please call Brent Adams & Associates at 1-800-INJURED for a free in-person consultation with an attorney.
