Charter Bus Flips After Crashing with Tractor - Trailer

Christina ColeMarch 16, 2007 2:50 AMA charter bus was involved in a trucking accident while returning to Williamston from Atlantic City, NJ, crashed with a tractor-trailer and flipped. A Washington woman was airlifted to the Medical College of Virginia on Thursday in Halifax.
Five people - one from Jamesville and one from Washington, were airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital after the bus collided with the tractor-trailer on N.C. Highway 125, said North Carolina Highway Patrol.
A Washington resident, associated with Sylvia and Iris Tours in Williamston, was airlifted to the Medical College of Virginia who chose to not have any information regarding her information released to the public.
The second Washington resident was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital and is listed in good condition. The others were also airlifted to the hospital where they were treated and released.
The truck driver was charged on Thursday with "improper backing," said a Trooper with the Highway Patrol office. He wasn't injured.
The tractor trailer was blocking both lanes of traffic as it backed into a driveway. There were lights on, but the trailer was at such an angle that you couldn't see it unless right up on it. The driver pressed on the brakes but it was too late.
Two of the five injured are in critical condition with no further information available at this time.
